WHAT CAUSES HYPERHIDROSIS?
Overall, excessive sweating can be classified into two different categories: primary and secondary Hyperhidrosis. Primary hyperhidrosis typically starts in childhood and there is usually a family history. It is the most common category, but the particular cause behind this condition is still fairly unknown. Secondary hyperhidrosis is when the sweating can affect your whole body and is likely caused by an underlying medical condition. Possible causes include obesity, hyperthyroidism, or even menopause. For this very reason, it is very important to identify the cause of your sweating before seeking any form of treatment to overcome it.
HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?
Hyperhidrosis treatments with injections usually start with an iodine solution and starch powder being applied to your armpits in order to identify the areas with excessive sweat. Then, a series of small injections will be administered into the skin around these trouble areas. Take comfort in knowing that the needles are very fine and the amount injected each time is very small. The whole procedure only takes around 20 minutes and is not too uncomfortable.
IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?
Most patients consider the injections very tolerable. Because even though you will need to tolerate 10 to 20 injections per underarm, the injection needle itself is very fine and the amount injected each time is also very small. But we do offer you the option of having a numbing cream applied 30 minutes before the treatment is administered. It is a very effective way of eliminating the pain associated with each injection.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO GET BOTOX FOR HYPERHIDROSIS?
The cost of Botox injections can vary significantly depending on how many areas you are seeking treatment for, and where you are located. HOW LONG WILL THE BOTOX WORK FOR?
Unfortunately, Botox is not a permanent solution and some people get a greater benefit from it than others. But, for most hyperhidrosis patients, Botox does help to stop or significantly reduce the symptoms. You can expect to see results within two weeks after treatment and the effects may last anywhere between 6 to 7 months. If the treatment has in fact been helpful for your hyperhidrosis, the procedure can always be repeated to maintain results.
