"I don't mind a few wrinkles and freckles. I had this laser treatment, Thermage, and it took a couple of years off my face"

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THERMAGE?
The collagen in your skin breaks down when you age, resulting in wrinkles, crepiness, sagging and bulging skin. Thermage is a procedure that tightens and renews your skin's collagen in all three skin layers: the epidermis, dermis and deep subcutaneous (fat) layers.

It is a completely non-invasive procedure, so there are no injections or surgeries and, unlike lasers, Thermage works on all skin types and tones.

A Thermage treatment typically performed involves a single session with no downtime. Thermage technology works by transmitting radio frequencies deep into the dermis, heating the collagen network which results in the tightening of the skin. With the treatment you can expect tighter, smoother skin and a more youthful appearance.
WHAT DOES THE THERMAGE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
During the procedure, when the Thermage device is applied, you can experience a warming sensation to the target area of treatment. It focuses on the collagen-rich layers of your skin and shouldn't be painful.

The heat sensation is followed by a soothing, cooling feel that will keep your skin cooled and protected, while also minimising any discomfort during the whole procedure.
DOES THE THERMAGE TREATMENT WORK FOR CELLULITE?
Cellulite occurs, for the most part, due to hereditary components, and can be hard to overcome without help. Thermage is a known successful treatment for the dimpled appearance of cellulite that can be found more frequently on the thighs and rear end.

The radiofrequency of Thermage disengages issue areas, creating the basic collagen to build and become more compliant, softening layers of fat.
HOW IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS?
Following the Thermage Treatment, you can experience some redness and swelling, which may last for 1-2 hours, or at most, for a few days. If necessary, the redness can be covered with makeup. It is difficult to predict results, as some patients see an improvement immediately or within a few weeks, while others only report improvement after 2-3 months. But keep in mind that new collagen carries on growing for up to 6 months after treatment so improvements should be visible right up till this time.
CAN I GET A THERMAGE PROCEDURE IF I'VE ALREADY HAD OTHER PROCEDURES?
A Thermage treatment can also be combined with other cosmetic procedures such as soft-tissue fillers, laser skin resurfacing, or even anti-wrinkle injections. For instance, combining IPL and Thermage can restore firmer and smoother skin at the same time as reducing unsightly age spots. For best results, as it goes with cosmetic treatments, discuss your past procedures and current expectations during your consultation.
